The mission of this committee is to publish a bi-monthly newsletter as a vehicle for communication between members of the Bar.  The Barletter contains highlights of bar activities, articles on legal issues, spotlights activities of colleagues and provides a calendar of bar events.

CONTINUING LEGAL EDUCATION COMMITTEE
The mission of this committee is to plan and implement a comprehensive program for providing quality continuing legal education to attorneys at a reasonable cost.

FEE DISPUTES COMMITTEE
The Fee Disputes Committee is one of the most important "interface" committees with the community. The Fee Disputes Committee receives complaints from clients and initially tries informally to respond to questions about fees and to work with attorneys for resolution. If resolution cannot be obtained informally, there is a hearing procedure where the Fee Disputes Committee will hear complaints and review results of their investigation of the case. The process is non-binding and confidential.

GRIEVANCE & ETHICS COMMITTEE
The Grievance and Ethics Committee meets four times a year and its individual members are called upon by the Chairman to handle specific investigations requested by the State Disciplinary Office. The Committee also informally handles complaints brought to it by the public through the Bar Association Office or officers. The Committee responsibilities include attorney up-dates through our lunch meetings and Barletter as reminders to adhere to the ethics of the profession. The Committee is also in charge of keeping up-to-date and publishing the Creed and Tenets of Professional Conduct of the Association.

LAWYERS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM COMMITTEE
The Lawyers Assistance Program Committee works confidentially with attorneys and their families who are experiencing impairments due to physical handicap, drugs, alcohol or other substances. The Committee is also responsible for working with attorneys to make them aware of the resources available to them through the Bar Association.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
The Membership Committee is responsible for receiving applications and contacting and welcoming new members to the Association. That welcome includes an introduction and personal conduct at a luncheon meetings as well as presentation of a certificate of the Creed and Tenets of Professional Conduct endorsed by the Association. The Membership Committee also plans ways to enhance a new member's association with our organization through the initial year membership.

The Family Law Bench/Bar Committee concentrates on the problems involved with domestic cases. This Section works with the judges, the Trustee's office, the SRS, GRASP and other agencies involved in the domestic process to review and keep procedures efficient. MUNICIPAL COURTS BENCH/BAR COMMITTEE
The Municipal Courts Bench/Bar Committee is re-established in 1990 and includes Municipal Court judges, prosecutors and defense attorneys. The Municipal Courts are the front line courts to the public, and to the community and generally represent the system of justice. This Committee's responsibility is to help insure that the Municipal Courts are run professionally and expeditiously. The Committee will be responsible for publishing a handbook of Local Rules. The Committee will also participate in the Annual Bench/Bar Conference.

The special objectives and purposes of this Section are: (1) to promote civility and courtesy among lawyers and to the courts and tribunals before whom the members appear; (2) to mentor young lawyers in matters of the ethical and courteous practice of law; (3) to monitor and promote the welfare of the most senior and retired members of the Bar Association; and (4) to promote the creed of professional conduct of the Bar Association.

Eligibility - All voting members of the Bar Association in good standing, fifty (50) years of age and older, and who have been admitted to practice in this jurisdiction for not less than ten (10) years, shall be members of the Section.

The special objectives and purposes of this Section are: (1) to improve the professional skills and integrity of young lawyers; (2) to expand the availability of law-related services to those ordinarily denied such services; (3) to provide a forum for young lawyers to express their opinions and ideas; (4) to offer a forum for the recognition due  young lawyers for their talents and their accomplishments, especially in advancing the goals of the Section and the Association; (5) to increase the participation of young lawyers in the Johnson County Bar Association; and (6) to foster and encourage the development of professional respect and courtesy between lawyers practicing in Johnson County in a manner that is consistent with the aggressive pursuit of the client's cause.

Eligibility - All voting members of the Johnson County Bar Association in good standing, not over thirty-six (36) years of age, or who have been admitted to practice before any court less than three (3) years, shall be members of the Section.
