CALLING VOLUNTEERS FOR CONSTITUTION DAY 2018
Once again in 2018, the Johnson County District Court will Celebrate Constitution Day. In its third year, the court will continue our Constitution Day celebrations. It takes nearly 100 volunteers including: judges from the Kansas Court of Appeals, retired judges, local attorneys, and court employees coming together to provide civics education to Johnson County students.
Sign-Up to volunteer for one session, an entire morning, or even join us at a local school. We will host students at the courthouse the mornings of September 14 and September 21. Volunteers are needed for sessions from 9:00-10:15 and 10:15-11:30. We will go to schools on Fridays from 9:00-11:30 on September 28, October 5, 12, 19, and 26, and November 2.
For 2018, we will host Civics 101, and mock trials at the courthouse and at local schools. In civics 101, students will learn about the three branches of government--focusing on the judicial branch. Our volunteers will also conduct mock trials. Students will participate as judge, jury, counsel, plaintiff, defendant, and witnesses. Our court reporters will provide live trial captioning for the students to see.
